Police instructed people to shelter in place, lock their doors and refrain from leaving their business or home, according to the RCMP, following reports at 12:26 p.m. PT of an active shooter driving a Ford pickup.
Police saw the vehicle again shortly after 1 p.m.
“A brief chase began, during which a police vehicle was rammed,” police said. “The suspect was arrested without incident.”
In response, officers and specialized units were deployed. No injuries were reported in the incident, according to the RCMP.
A lockdown has been lifted as there is no indication of ongoing threats to the public, according to British Columbia RCMP spokesman Cpl. Madonna Saunderson.
Vanderhoof is located approximately 522 miles north of Vancouver.
