The US Food and Drug Administration. approved Pfizer’s pediatric vaccine for use last month, and the U.S. Center for Disease Control said they were safe for use and recommended to protect young children from COVID-19.
Professor Nadav Davidovitch, an expert in epidemiology and public health at Ben-Gurion University, told Ynet on Wednesday before the panel meeting, that despite some side effects that can be expected when any drug or vaccine is administered, “the risk of the vaccine is much lower than the risk of the disease itself.”

“It also gives us peace, because it not only protects our children, but it also protects us as a society,” he said.

Responding to claims that there was no medical need to vaccinate young children against the virus, now that the fourth wave of the pandemic caused by the Delta variant has subsided, Davidovitch said the virus was still with us and will not go away.

“There are more than five million deaths worldwide … You have to tell people to get vaccinated right now, when things are quieter, so they can cope later, in case of a further increase in cases. “, said.

On Wednesday, the panel held its vote via Zoom in a meeting that was closed to the public, citing online attacks by vaccine opponents.
