Yamina de Bennett to consider punishing rebel MK Amichai Chikli

The Yamina faction will meet in the Knesset on Monday to consider how to handle the MK Amichai Chikli rebellion.

The faction refrained from taking action against Chikli for months, hoping to win his support for the state budget. But after he voted hundreds of times against the budget and its provisions last week, Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked and other Yamina MPs want to take action against him immediately.

If the faction requests the Knesset House Committee to formally declare that Chikli has illegally separated from Yamina, he will not be allowed to run in the next elections with the Likud, the Religious Zionist Party or any faction in the current Knesset, at Unless I resign from the Knesset immediately. But if he decides to remain a deputy, Yamina could lose a seat from the party’s funding for the next election.

“We need to act using our head and not our instincts,” an opponent of taking action against Chikli in Yamina told Army Radio.

Yamina’s leader, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, has not announced his position on the matter.

A Yamina official said Chikli would be “committing political suicide” if he decides to remain a deputy and lose all political options other than forming a new party.

But Israel Hayom columnist Caroline Glick, who ran with Bennett and Shaked when her party failed to cross the electoral threshold, said she believed a Chikli-led party could enter parliament.

“I don’t know about you, but if Chikli forms a group, I’m sure that unlike Smola (to the left in Hebrew, her nickname for Yamina, which means to the right) or False Hope (her nickname for New Hope, her list the Knesset will enter, “Glick wrote.” The people of Israel know how to express gratitude to those who remain loyal, and there is no one more worthy of the title of loyalty to the land and people of Israel than Amichai. “

Chikli thanked Glick for the tweet. He mocked attempts to declare that he had separated by posting a video of Bennett criticizing Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Liberman before last elections for being willing to crown Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid as prime minister. and form a coalition with Meretz.

“The public will judge who is the MK that broke up,” Chikli wrote along with the video.

Yamina must also decide how to handle Yamina MK and Deputy Minister Abir Kara, who voted with the coalition on the budget but has not fulfilled his commitment to resign from the Knesset through Norwegian Law and allow the next candidate on the list, the party director. -General Stella Weinstein, to enter the Knesset. Kara said she intends to stay in the Knesset to pass reforms that help freelancers.

“I work only for the public and no one else,” Kara said. “Being a deputy minister and a deputy means double the power.”

A Yamina official said the party expects Kara to keep her promises.

“If he does not do so, punitive measures can be taken against him,” the official said.
