Sony Pictures released, this Thursday (28), a new teaser for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. The video shows a bit of the construction of Albert Wesker, the main villain of the video games franchise and who will appear in the film.
In the feature film, the iconic character will be played by Tom Hopper (Black Sails e The Umbrella Academy). “We didn’t want him to be a stereotypical villain. We wanted him to be nice. We’re seeing who he really is under his sunglasses. It’s an origin story that brings out that version of Wesker… It really felt like we were making the movie version of the game,” said Hopper.
The film’s director, Johannes Roberts, said viewers will see the character’s evolution until it’s very close to the version that’s featured in the franchise’s first games. Check out the full teaser below.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City it will also feature actors such as Kaya Scodelario (Claire Redfield), Avan Jogia (Leon Scott Kennedy), Hannah John-Kamen (Jill Valentine), Robbie Amell (Chris Redfield) and Neal McDonough (William Birkin).
According to the director, the production is intended to be a more faithful adaptation of the first Resident Evil games. The idea, according to him, was to capture that atmosphere of tension and terror that players felt so much in the Spencer Mansion (Resident Evil 1) and at the police station in Raccoon City (Resident Evil 2).
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City premieres on December 2nd in Brazilian cinemas and on November 24th in the United States.
