A police officer was convicted of raping six women by misleading them with false promises of positions in an undercover unit, the internal affairs department of the Justice Ministry announced on Thursday.
Under the plea agreement, Itzik Zrihan will serve 4.5 years in prison and will compensate the victims with a total of 174,000 NIS ($ 55,000), according to a statement from the Police Internal Investigations Department.
He was convicted by the Central District Court in Lod for rape by deception and various counts of fraud.
According to the indictment, Zrihan falsely told the women that he was not married and held a high-level position in an undercover unit, offering them positions in the unit and promising them a high salary and other benefits.
Zrihan allegedly told the women that they would have to have sex with suspected criminals as part of their work in the undercover unit, and that they would need to receive training that included having sex with him.
“The defendant asserted control over their lives, scared and humiliated them,” the indictment says.
The indictment also alleges that Zrihan reached out to other women on Facebook and offered them posts at the police unit.
The senior prosecutor in the case welcomed Zrihan’s judgment as “significant.”
